Meet Devoted Kesha Fans Protesting Sony
A group of Kesha‘s fans gathered outside of Sony’s New York City offices on the morning of Friday, February 26th, to demand that the pop star be let out of her contract. See footage from the rally above.
“Nobody should ever be forced to work with their abuser,” one fan told Rolling Stone. Supporters held up signs that said “Free Kesha” and “Sony Supports Rape” outside of the building while chanting statements including “Dr. Luke is really wack/Kesha needs her freedom back.”
Like the protest that took place outside of Kesha’s NYC hearing last week, this meeting was organized by 18-year-old Michael Eisele. The teenager has been leading support for the pop star online for three years. “This is definitely a worldwide movement right now,” he said to RS.
Last week, a court denied Kesha’s injunction to record outside of Sony and its subsidiary label Kemosabe, owned by producer Dr. Luke. Kesha accused Dr. Luke of drugging and raping her as well as emotionally abusing her for years. Dr. Luke has denied these charges.
According to Sony, Kesha is free to work with whomever she likes on her future releases but must remain on the label for six more albums. Even though she would not have to spend studio time with Dr. Luke, he would still be indirectly involved since his label must approve all potential collaborators.
