Watch Kanye West’s Leaked Clip From Weird, Unreleased ‘Robocop’ Video
Kanye West dreams big – even in his unreleased projects. Back in 2008, the rapper collaborated with director Hype Williams on a futuristic video for “Robocop,” a sprightly joint from his auto-tune-heavy 808s and Heartbreak LP. The strange clip (which features his ex-girlfriend Amber Rose) was never made public, but as XXL notes, fans can check out a 13-second teaser thanks to a recent Instagram leak from Shihan Barbee, a CG modeler involved in the production.
The brief video features a jerky stop-motion visual style, with West mugging for the camera and Rose’s head digitally inserted on top of a naked doll. Check it out below.
Meanwhile, back in 2014, West is currently aiming to release his next album “most likely in September,” but possibly in October or November. The rapper discussed his release strategy and creative headspace in a recent interview with GQ, saying his plan was to drop his new single, “All Day,” before then, “just to have something up and running.”
“I was thinking [the record] could somehow come out in June, like Yeezus, and just kill it for the summer,” he said. “But then I’m like, I have to work on Adidas and be with my child.” Elsewhere in the interview, West said he was planning to scrap his previous direction of “beautiful songs,” which would have told the world, “Hey, I’m a great musician. I make these beautiful songs, and they have all this meaning, and nobody can make anything that means this much.”
He even talked about the infamous video for “Bound 2,” which featured the rapper riding on a motorcycle with his semi-nude wife, Kim Kardashian (and was later parodied by Seth Rogen and James Franco). His one regret for the clip? Not having more nudity.
“Even ‘Bound 2,’ when the video came out, I think people’s apprehension – I mean, it’s the same as any other Kanye West video,” he said. “I would have just liked to have had more nudity in it. I just want to do crazy, colorful shit like that that has more nudity.”
