Hear Led Zeppelin’s Bonus Material From the First Three Albums Today
Jimmy Page will premiere a number of previously unreleased Led Zeppelin outtakes that will appear on the group’s forthcoming reissues for a French audience this afternoon, an event that will be live-streamed here. The listening station is being held at Paris’ L’Olympia, where Led Zeppelin played on October 10th, 1969; audio from that concert comprises the bonus disc of the deluxe edition of Led Zeppelin, which will come out, along with remastered deluxe versions of Led Zeppelin II and Led Zeppelin III, on June 3rd. Tune in to the listening party at 2:30 p.m. EST below.
The 40 Greatest Led Zeppelin Songs of All Time
At a similar event in New York City last week, Page played an audience of journalists eight previously unreleased songs from the deluxe editions: “Communication Breakdown” and “You Shook Me,” from the live performance to be featured on Led Zeppelin; in-progress versions of “Heartbreaker” and “Whole Lotta Love,” which feature alternate guitar improvisations, from Led Zeppelin II; and different versions of “Immigrant Song,” “Since I’ve Been Loving You” and “Gallows Pole,” for Led Zeppelin III, as well as a cover of the blues standard “Key to the Highway.”
The deluxe editions mark the first three entries in a reissue campaign that will cover every album Led Zeppelin released and come in a variety of configurations, including vinyl editions and a super deluxe boxed set that comes with a hardbound book.
But while the band members are celebrating the legacies of their recorded work, they will not be reuniting for live shows anytime soon. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, frontman Robert Plant unilaterally dismissed the notion of hitting the road following the group’s 2007 reunion. “A tour would have been an absolute menagerie of vested interests and the very essence of everything that’s shitty about big-time stadium rock,” he said. “We were surrounded by a circus of people that would have had our souls on the fire. I’m not part of a jukebox!”
