Watch Blake Shelton Play ‘Neon Light’ and Quarterback on ‘Fallon’
Jimmy Fallon doesn’t understand why Blake Shelton‘s face isn’t on the cover of his upcoming album, Bringing Back the Sunshine.
“There are pictures of me on the inside. It’s like Hustler: You’re not going to get it all on the cover,” the country singer joked on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Wednesday night.
Shelton performed the album’s first single, the post-breakup pick-me-up “Neon Light,” on the show. (Watch above.) “The song, the melody, the chorus is so George Jones or George Strait,” he tells Rolling Stone Country. “Of course, I’m always going to have the haters and critics out there that say it’s not. But then, kiss my ass! I know more about those records than a lot of people.”
A lot of people, including Fallon, who made up his own words to the song using the melody of Brooks & Dunn’s “Neon Moon.” The jabs between the two continued through multiple segments of Wednesday’s show, including a game of “Random Object Football Toss,” which they played in honor of the NFL season opener tonight. Among the items they aimed toward a large photo of a Green Bay Packer with a hole cut out at his hands were a mannequin head (which Shelton named “Alanis Morissette”), a foot-long subway sandwich, a beer pitcher full of peanuts and a bowl of eight-layer dip.
“This is the dumbest thing I’ve ever done in my life,” the country singer said before beating Fallon 1—0 in the game. (Watch below.)
Bringing Back the Sunshine hits stores September 30th, while Shelton returns to NBC’s The Voice September 22nd.
