Watch Justin Bieber Torch Instagram With ‘Ring of Fire’
Taylor Swift has gone pop, and Justin Bieber‘s gone country?
OK, so the embattled pop prince isn’t exactly recording a new album in Nashville, but he set Instagram on fire today with his cover of a sacred Johnny Cash song. Bieber posted a short video of himself, shirtless with guitar in hand, singing a few lines of “Ring of Fire” in a much lower register than normal for the 20 year old. (Watch below.) A similarly undressed Khalil — also Bieber’s partner-in-crime in a DUI bust in Miami earlier this year — joins him on vocals.
“We wake up singin good ol johny cash @khalil came with with [sic] the crazy tone lol,” Bieber posted.
This isn’t Bieber’s first 15-second foray into country. Back in May, he faked his best southern accent for a cover of Lonestar’s “Amazed” in a Vine video. The Canadian singer even has a country music award, taking home a CMT trophy back in 2011 for Best Collaborative Video of the Year, for his “That Should Be Me” duet with Rascal Flatts. That same year, he wrote a song with Swift, which has yet to see the light of day.
Bieber, who is currently in between albums, avoided jail time for the January arrest in Miami. Earlier this month, he pleaded guilty to careless driving and resisting arrest, resulting in a $500 fine, a mandated anger-management course and required viewing of educational videos on the dangers of driving under the influence. He also made a $50,000 donation to a Miami children’s charity as an apology to the city.
