Death Cab for Cutie, Jack Johnson to Headline Boston Calling
Death Cab for Cutie, Jack Johnson and Modest Mouse will top an impressive bill for this year’s Boston Calling Music Festival, set for May 23rd-25th at Boston’s City Hall Plaza. The festival, which will take place over three days for the first time, announced its lineup by hiding 10 pieces of vinyl around the city and teasing fans with clues to their whereabouts.
Other names scribbled on the LPs include Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, the Head and the Heart, Built to Spill, Tegan and Sara, Jenny Lewis, Kurt Vile, Bastille, Phosphorescent, Warpaint, Cass McCombs and Frank Turner and the Sleeping Souls. As the festival’s official poster notes, one headlining act has yet to be announced. For tickets and other festival information, you can check out the Boston Calling website.
Relive Boston Calling With Vampire Weekend, Kendrick Lamar and More
Boston Calling will be one of Death Cab for Cutie‘s first big shows since the band announced back in October that they had begun work on their eighth studio album, the follow-up to 2011’s Codes and Keys. Expect to hear a handful of new tunes, and most likely a few from their breakout 2003 LP Transatlanticism, which got the reissue treatment last year for its 10th anniversary.
As for Johnson, the singer-songwriter announced a slew of intermittent spring and summer tour dates in support of his 2013 album, From Here to Now to You. The trek also includes previously announced stops at the Hangout Music Festival in Gulf Shores, Alabama and the Firefly Festival in Dover, Delaware.
Modest Mouse are also reportedly at work on a new album, canceling a string of European dates last summer to record. While a title or release date have yet to be announced, former Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic said last September that he contributed to the album, calling the long-awaited follow-up LP to 2007’s We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank “pretty edgy.”
