Jay Z and Beyonce Tease Star-Packed Action Film ‘Run’
The collaboration between Jay Z and Beyoncé shot off in a thrilling new direction Saturday night as the superstar couple released a trailer for an action movie called Run. Packed with rapid-cut flashes of guns, cash, heists and explosions, the film also features an impressive roster of Hollywood A-listers including Sean Penn, Jake Gyllenhaal, Don Cheadle and Rashida Jones.
How Did Beyoncé Keep Her Surprise Album a Secret?
The four-minute teaser was directed Melina Matsoukas, who directed the video for Beyoncé’s “Pretty Hurts” and won a Grammy for her work on Rihanna’s “We Found Love.” The title of the film alludes to the On the Run summer tour that Jay Z and Beyoncé will be embarking on together, starting in Miami at the end of June.
“Who wants that perfect love story anyway?” Beyoncé asks in Jay Z’s song “Part II (On the Run),” which features prominently in the clip. And spread through the action sequences, there’s plenty of romantic scenes of Mr. and Mrs. Carter riding off on a motorcycle, stitching up each other’s gunshot wounds and, provocatively, riding in an elevator.
Needless to say, Beyoncé can rock a balaclava like no one else, and she even manages to look good in a police lineup, spattered in blood.
Sadly, Run won’t be coming to your local multiplex anytime soon: The trailer ends with the words “Coming Never.” But maybe the On the Run summer tour will be nearly as action-packed.
