Pharrell’s Grammy Hat Could Be Yours for the Price of a Compact Car
Now that Pharrell Williams has made whatever fashion statement he was trying to make by wearing a 100-gallon hat to the Grammys and the NBA All-Star Game (maybe it was, “Look I can hold my three Grammys under this thing!”), he is auctioning it off. At the time of this post, the brown Vivienne Westwood cap is fetching $10,500 on eBay. But before making any Dudley Do-Right or Arby’s jokes, all of the proceeds from the auction are benefitting From One Hand to Another, an organization that Pharrell founded in 2008 to help children “by giving them the tools and resources to meet their unique potential.”

The auction’s description says, “Bid on the hat that took the 2014 Grammy Awards and social media by storm,” and describes it as a “mountain” hat. In addition to a giant hat, the winner will also get a letter of authenticity.
To show that he’s a good sport, Pharrell announced the auction by taking a jab back at Arby’s, the fast-food sandwich makers who use a giant cowboy hat as their logo and had tweeted at him during the Grammys, “Hey Pharrell, can we have our hat back?” He tweeted at Arby’s yesterday: “Hey Arby’s, you want my hat? Now’s your chance.”
The auction will close on March 2nd at 5 p.m. PST. Bidders must pre-qualify “to ensure a safe and fair auction.”
In the meantime, Pharrell is readying the release of his first record in eight years, G I R L, for March 3rd. The producer has said that he wanted the album to sound “festive and urgent,” and, as his reps told Billboard, look out for future eBay promotions surrounding the album’s release. As Vice notes, Justin Timberlake, Miley Cyrus, Daft Punk and Alicia Keys are all scheduled to appear on the album.
