Watch Elton John Belt Classics in ‘Carpool Karaoke’
Fresh off giving Chris Martin a ride to the Super Bowl, James Corden was back behind the wheel to chauffeur Elton John around Los Angeles in the latest installment of “Carpool Karaoke.” Like previous segments, the ride was a mix of funny anecdotes and sing-alongs, with “Your Song,” “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me” and “Tiny Dancer” among the tracks the pair duet on.
Discussing why he wore such flamboyant stage outfits over the course of his career, John explained, “I was never a lead vocalist. Not like Bowie or Jagger. I was playing the piano … I wasn’t a sex symbol, and so I had fun with my outfits. And I just went with it.” On that note, the two suddenly sing “Crocodile Rock” in extravagant costumes.
During their ride together, John also reveals he buys four copies of every album he purchases (“One for the house here, one for the house in France, one for the house in England, one for the place in Atlanta”) and that he doesn’t own a phone. John added that younger artists like Ed Sheeran and Grimes inspire him to continue making music.
“I’m only looking forward. I don’t look back,” John said. “Whenever you hear something new that inspires you from the young, it makes you feel ‘I’m gonna do that, I want to do that.’ So, I still have the energy of a 20-year-old, and I want to carry on… Once you stop, you die.”
