The Boxcars Lead 2014 International Bluegrass Music Awards Nominees
The Boxcars lead the pack of nominees for the 2014 International Bluegrass Music Awards. Nods for the band plus its individual members make for a total of ten, followed by Blue Highway with nine nominations. The awards ceremony will take place October 2nd in Raleigh, North Carolina, also home to the annual World of Bluegrass live music and conference event, which is this year set for September 30th-October 4th.
Lee Ann Womack will share hosting duties at the awards show with Jerry Douglas, who has about two dozen IBMA trophies to his name. Nominees and winners are chosen by members of the IBMA, the trade association for the bluegrass music industry. This year, members have already voted to induct the Original Seldom Scene and Neil Rosenberg into the Bluegrass Hall of Fame.
Up for the night’s top honor, Entertainer of the Year, are Balsam Range, Blue Highway, Dailey & Vincent, the Gibson Brothers and the Del McCoury Band. The Gibson Brothers have held onto the title for the past two years. Album of the Year nods to go Junior Sisk and Joe Mullins’ Hall of Fame Bluegrass, the Boxcars’ It’s Just a Road, Noam Pikelny Plays Kenny Baker Plays Bill Monroe by Noam Pikelny, the Del McCoury Band’s Streets of Baltimore and The Game by Blue Highway.
