Taylor Swift’s ‘Tonight Show’ Appearance is Totally ‘Ew!’
Taylor Swift and Jimmy Fallon broke out the scrunchies and dental gear on The Tonight Show Wednesday night for another installment of every teen girl’s favorite (fake) show, “Ew!” Deep in the depths of a gloriously wood-paneled basement, host Sara (Fallon) welcomed Natalie (Swift), who gabbed about her favorite hobbies like collecting Band-Aids, making popsicle stick castles by herself (which Swift actually did as a kid) and drawing pictures of Pegicorns, which is, indeed, a unicorn crossed with a Pegasus.
After an awkward run-in with Sara’s Joan Osborne-loving stepdad, Natalie and Sara sat down for an intense “Ew!” speed round, where Natalie deemed everything from rice pudding to airplane mode, breaking up and getting back together — never, ever, ever — like, totally, “Ew!” Sean Connery, however: Super cute.
After taking off the braces she teased ahead of her appearance on Tonight, Swift stuck around to chat with Fallon and confirmed that she will be performing at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards, taking place on August 24th. While Fallon was stoked to score the big scoop, Swift didn’t let on to much else, despite the host’s best efforts to find out if she was going to “Beyoncé an album and just pop it out,” during her Yahoo! live stream on August 18th at 5 p.m. ET. While Swift would neither confirm or deny, she seemed to intimate that some big news was imminent.
As for those popsicle stick castles: Not only was that one way the aspiring pop star passed the time as a kid, but she told Fallon how one construction job left her with a battle scar on her leg. “When I was 10, I would sit up in my attic and make castles out of popsicle sticks,” Swift said. “And I used a super industrial-strength hot glue gun — cause I was really serious about it.” One day, while creating a slide for the little bears who lived in the castle (“This is such a nerdy story,” Fallon cracked), Swift recalled: “Suddenly I was gluing off the table and a big glob of hot glue was just there and your first instinct is to go, ‘Oh I’ll just pull that off.’ And then you pull off 17 layers of skin with it.” Definitely, ew.
