Hear Sia’s Hypnotic Power Ballad, ‘Broken Glass’
Sia has released the hypnotic torch song “Broken Glass,” set to appear on her upcoming album, This Is Acting. Listen below.
“Broken Glass,” which debuted on Zane Lowe’s Apple Music show World Record, is much slower fare from the singer’s string of releases leading up to her new album. On the ballad, Sia belts in a softer register about a relationship that is falling apart and the desire to not give up. By the chorus, the track transitions into power-ballad mode after an Eastern-influenced start.
The premise of Sia’s seventh LP — and second as a full-fledged pop star — finds the vocalist recording songs rejected by top-tier pop artists, such as Rihanna, Beyonce and Adele. Prior to “Broken Glass,” she had previewed a pair of songs originally intended for Rihanna’s long-awaited eighth album Anti, which debuted on Wednesday night. One of the songs, “Reaper,” was co-written and produced by Kanye West.
Sia will appear on West’s recently renamed and long-awaited seventh album, Waves. They had debuted their collaboration “Wolves” with Vic Mensa during the rapper’s fashion show in early 2015 and performed the track on SNL 40, though the mournful tune has yet to receive an official release.
This summer, Sia will make several rare live appearances at festivals. She’ll join Guns N’ Roses, LCD Soundsystem, Disclosure and Grimes at Coachella this April. In May, she’ll perform at Boston Calling and will later make a string of appearances across Europe in August.
This Is Acting is set to be released on January 29th.
