Bob Dylan Details 31-Date North American Fall Tour
Bob Dylan will embark on a 31-date North American tour, beginning October 17th at Seattle’s Paramount Theater. The trek features several residencies and wraps up with four nights at New York’s Beacon Theater. Tickets for most shows go on sale this weekend.
The tour represents his first dates in the continental United States since August 2013, when he concluded his AmericanaramA tour with Wilco and My Morning Jacket. Since then he has toured extensively overseas.
Dylan is currently in the middle of an Australian tour. The setlist varies little from night to night, even during long residences at single venues, and it focuses largely on his catalog of songs from the past 15 years. Many gigs feature just three songs from the 1960s: “She Belongs to Me,” “All Along the Watchtower” and “Blowin’ in the Wind.” The Blood on the Tracks cuts “Tangled Up in Blue” and “Simple Twist of Fate” are in the mix, as well. He’s also introduced an intermission into the middle of the set.
The singer has made a habit of wrapping up his year with a run of shows in New York. The 2012, 2009, 2008 and 2006 legs of the Never Ending Tour also finished up in the city. Assuming he adds no more dates and nothing gets cancelled, Dylan will have played 90 concerts by the end of the year. (The record remains 1999 when he did 120.) He rarely plays much past Thanksgiving, and the final two gigs this year will be his first December concerts since 1997.
The news of the American tour comes just one day after the announcement that the complete Basement Tapes will hit shelves on November 4th. A deluxe, six-disc package will feature 138 songs, including 30 tracks that have never even appeared on bootlegs. There will also be a two-disc collection and a three-LP set. An exclusive preview of a previously unheard rendition of “Odds and Ends” is streaming here.
