TV on the Radio Tease New Album ‘Seeds’ With Colorful, Ethereal Video
TV on the Radio will put out their first record in three years, Seeds, in the fall, their first since the 2011 death of their bassist, Gerard Smith. “We’ve been through a lot of stuff in the past few years that could have stopped the band cold,” vocalist Tunde Adebimpe said in a statement. “But I’m glad we got it together and took stock of the unique connection we have between each other because the record is, 1,000 percent, without a doubt, the best thing we’ve ever done.” The group released a short teaser video, streaming below, which contains serene, husky synths and not much more.

Last year, the group reported that it was working on a new album, which it ultimately decided to record at guitarist and producer David Andrew Sitek’s Federal Prism studio in Los Angeles. “I like coming in and saying, ‘Let’s make a couple songs,’ not feeling any sort of pressure to lock ourselves in a room,” Adebimpe told Spin last April. “I don’t think anyone has the space [in their lives] to do that ever again.”
By the fall, the group had two songs it felt comfortable releasing. The first was a ballad, “Million Miles,” which the band released as an ecological-themed music video in August. The next month, they put out another new song, “Mercy,” which featured a more upbeat dance-rock beat and lyrics about “professional evil.”
The band’s last record, Nine Types of Light, came out on April 12th, 2011. Eight days later, the group reported that Smith had lost his battle with lung cancer, with which he had been diagnosed the previous month. He was 36.
