Kip Moore Says ‘No’ to Heaven in ‘Dirt Road’ Video
In the 1982 song “If I Heaven Ain’t a Lot Like Dixie,” Hank Williams Jr. made it clear that he didn’t want to enter the Pearly Gates if the afterlife wasn’t akin to his beloved South. Kip Moore shares and updates that sentiment in the video for his new single “Dirt Road.”

Opening with Moore listening to a preacher’s fire-and-brimstone sermon in a rural church, the video, directed by Peter Zavadil (Eric Church’s “Give Me Back My Hometown”) moves forward with Moore performing with his band. There’s also the requisite shots of him walking down the titular road, with a pretty blonde in a white sundress, Moore’s “baby” in the song’s lyrics: “But unless it’s got a dirt road/leading down to a fishing hole/with a little piece of moonlight/a couple cans of Bud Light/where I can cuddle with my baby/and I can pull her real close/no, I don’t want go/unless heaven’s got a dirt road.”
Written by Moore with longtime collaborator Dan Couch and Westin Davis, the defiant “Dirt Road” puts a fresh twist on the by-now-overused back roads conceit and nods to one of country’s rowdiest friends at the same time. Moore will headline the 2014 installment of CMT On Tour in the fall, kicking off September 25th in New York City.
