“World Peace is None of Your Business” finds Moz in classic form, bitterly crooning about social inequality over lush orchestration. You can purchase the song individually, or get it as a free download when you pre-order the whole album. The deluxe edition of World Peace Is None of Your Business is also available for pre-order over and features six additional tracks.
The song is accompanied by a short clip directed by Natalie Johns that finds a dapper, pensive Morrissey plucking away at a piano as he reads the lyrics to “World Peace Is None of Your Business” in a voice over. While he waxes about how “Police will stun you with their stun guns / Or they’ll disable you with tasers,” Nancy Sinatra — looking as badass as ever in a buttoned-up black coat and tinted shades — slinks into the room and gifts Morrissey a briefcase filled with flowers and a handwritten copy of the track’s lyrics.
World Peace Is None of Your Business marks Morrissey’s first solo effort since 2009’s Years of Refusal. After struggling to find a record label, Morrissey inked a two-album deal with Harvest Records and Capitol Music back in January. The former Smiths frontman then set about recording World Peace in France, working with producer Joe Chiccarelli (Alanis Morissette, the Strokes) and many of the same musicians who played on Years of Refusal.
Morrissey launched his North American tour at the San Jose City National Civic last week with a career-spanning set that included a handful of Smiths songs, plenty of solo material and three new cuts from World Peace: the title track, “The Bullfighter Dies,” and “Earth Is the Loneliest Planet.”
