Jay Z Allegedly Attacked by Solange After Met Gala
UPDATE (5/14): The Standard Hotel has fired the employee responsible for leaking the video showing Solange attacking Jay Z. The hotel told the Associated Press that the employee “breach[ed] the security policies of the hotel and record[ed] the confidential CCTV video.” The hotel said it would turn over “all available information to criminal authorities.”
Singer Solange Knowles attacked Jay Z in a hotel elevator at a Met Gala after party in New York City last week, TMZ reports. Her sister, Beyoncé, stood by as a man, who appeared to be a bodyguard, held Solange back as she kicked and swiped at the rapper, surveillance video shows. At one point, Jay Z grabbed her foot but did not attempt to hit her back, and later, the man restraining Solange stopped the elevator mid-service apparently to keep the attack private. When they exited the elevator and hotel, Solange and Beyoncé got in one car while Jay Z got in another. It is unclear what prompted the fight.

Us Weekly reports that at the after party, which took place at the Standard Hotel, everyone seemed to be getting along. Beyoncé, Solange and Naomi Campbell reportedly danced while Jay Z hung out. They left abruptly but without alarm, before the elevator altercation.
“Solange flipped out over something Jay had said, that she took the wrong way,” an unnamed source told Us. “She took it too hard or too far. Not sure what it was, but she greatly overreacted.”
“Beyoncé tried to stay out of it,” another source told Us. “She does not approve of violence. They are trying to put the situation past them now.”
Reps for Jay Z and Solange did not comment to Us about the incident.
Two days after the incident, Beyoncé posted a prayer to her Instagram account asking God to bless all the relationships in her life. She posted it without comment.
