Bodega Bamz and Martinez Brothers Team Up on New Mixtape – Premiere
When Bodega Bamz and the Martinez Brothers were introduced through a mutual friend, the New York artists only planned on working together for a couple tracks. “We showed him a batch of beats and hopefully we were just gonna get one or two on his new mixtape,” Steve Martinez tells Rolling Stone, heading to the airport in a car with his brother. “After that, we just vibed out and connected and said, ‘Let’s forget all these beats and start from scratch.'”
The result is Sunday Service, a joint mixtape based around loose rhymes, tough beats and nostaglic samples. “We kind of wanted to go on a Cypress Hill type of route and do different take on the whole house vs. hip-hop thing,” continues Steve. “A lot of the stuff that’s coming out, it just feels repetitive and you kind of know what’s gonna happen.”
“We clicked right away because we literally had the same upbringing,” adds Bamz. “With the tape I wanted to showcase my range and versatility. From the artwork to the sounds, it’s refreshing – no one else sounds like us.”
