Parquet Courts Stagger Through Germany in ‘Berlin Got Blurry’ Video
New York rock and droll outfit Parquet Courts wander the streets of Berlin in the new video for “Berlin Got Blurry,” off their upcoming LP, Human Performance.
In a statement, co-frontman Andrew Savage noted the song is “about feeling completely foreign to your environment … not knowing where you belong.” It’s a sentiment Savage captures in his characteristically voluble lyrics, but also in the “Berlin Got Blurry” video, in which he stumbles around the German capital, eating doner kebab, riding the S-Bahn and drinking beer. The song too seems joyfully out of place, blending classic NYC indie stylings with a Southwestern riff that honors the band’s Texas roots.
“Berlin Got Blurry” will appear on Human Performance, set to arrive April 8th on Rough Trade. The album follows their 2015 EP, Monastic Living, as well as their pair of 2014 albums, Sunbathing Animal and Content Nausea (the latter was released as “Parkay Quarts” and recorded by just Savage and fellow guitarist/singer Austin Brown).
Formed in 2010, Parquet Courts broke out with their second LP, 2012’s Light Up Gold, partly on the strength of “Stoned and Starving,” a dope ode intercut with jangling, meandering guitar work. While the group’s Nineties aesthetic and penchant for pot garnered them the “slacker” descriptor, Parquet Courts have distanced themselves from the label with their intensive output and other endeavors, including Savage’s Dull Tools label.
