Eric Church to Play College Footall Championship Tailgate
Later today, two finalists for the College Football Championship will be decided when Alabama plays Michigan State in the Cotton Bowl and Clemson plays Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl. When the winners square off January 11th at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, Eric Church will be on hand to warm up the crowds.
Church, whose fifth album Mr. Misunderstood was a surprise release in early November, will headline the Championship Tailgate entertainment festivities on game day. The event — which is free to all Championship ticketholders — takes place from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. MT on the Capital One Quicksilver Music Stage and includes an opening performance by Nashville-based band Moon Taxi.
Additionally, “Love You Like That” singer Canaan Smith has been selected to sing “America the Beautiful” with members of the Phoenix Children’s Chorus prior to kickoff. Pop singer Ciara will perform the national anthem. The College Football Championship will broadcast January 11th at 7:00 p.m. ET on ESPN.
The Championship Tailgate is Church’s only performance until February 29th, when he is scheduled to play Cirkus in Stockholm, Sweden. A tour of Europe follows, with stops in Germany, Switzerland, Netherlands and the United Kingdom. Church will return to the U.S. for the Runaway Country Festival, March 20th, in Kissimmee, Florida.
