Jason Patric’s Lawyer Responds to RS Custody Battle Story
The custody battle between actor Jason Patric and his ex-girlfriend Danielle Schreiber over their son, Gus, is the subject of Vanessa Grigoriadis’ riveting new Rolling Stone feature. Patric would not be quoted directly for the story, but instead released the following statement via his lawyer.
Fred Silberberg, CFLS, attorney for Jason Patric:
“On May 14, 2014 the Second District Court of Appeal in California issued its published opinion holding that Mr. Patric is entitled to proceed with his parentage claim, and that trial is to resume in regard to his request that he be deemed the legal father of his son, Gus. In the nearly two years that have elapsed from the inception of the legal proceedings, until the Court of Appeal issued its ruling, Danielle Schreiber has never made any statements to the press alleging that Mr. Patric abused her. Ms. Schreiber appeared on NBC’s Today on July 15th, 2013 and did not then allege that Mr. Patric had abused her. Subsequent to that, Ms. Schreiber did not give any interviews to the media until after she lost in the Court of Appeal. It was only upon the Court of Appeal having reversed the trial court’s erroneous ruling that Mr. Patric could not pursue his parentage claim, that Ms. Schreiber and her legal team, began attempting to disparage Mr. Patric in the press. Mr. Patric emphatically denies these allegations. Furthermore, the efforts are being carried out by the same woman who spent many years in a relationship with Mr. Patric, who signed documents such as a preschool contract with Mr. Patric acknowledging him to be the father, who allowed him to pay preschool tuition, and who repeatedly instilled in Gus as shown in videos and documents presented at trial, that Mr. Patric is his father. It is unfortunate for Gus that Ms. Schreiber is willing to stoop to such a level and disparage the child’s father in the public eye. Mr. Patric will continue to press forward with his legal rights so that he and Gus are reunited. The timing of Ms. Schreiber’s sudden media campaign should make anyone suspicious.”
