Kings of Leon’s ‘Temple’ Video Shows Off Nashville in Blurry Glory
Kings of Leon dug up the original Instagram for their video for “Temple,” a track off their latest album Mechanical Bull. Rather than audition a million fuzzy, sun-worn filters to posterize their footage into blurry oblivion, they got hold of an old 8mm camera for (what looks like) the real deal. With it, they shot scenes in the studio of a baby with a shaker and others in the streets around their native Nashville to create a montage of clips that run at the same upbeat pace as the song. It’s a look that apparently warrants two screens explaining that the video was “brought to you by NachoVision,” the film eye of Kings cousin Christopher “Nacho” Followill.
Where Did Kings of Leon’s ‘Supersoaker’ Rank Among the 100 Best Songs of 2013?
But of course, Jurassic technology isn’t the only star of the clip; there’s also plenty of footage of the Followill brothers playing the song in front of the sign on the album cover – material they had previewed in the rehearsal footage below – giving frontman Caleb plenty of screen time to tell us rather over-romantically that he’d “take one in the temple” for us.
After keeping a somewhat low profile on the touring circuit last year (though the band made time to play “Temple” on SNL), the brothers kicked off their Mechanical Bull tour this month, which brought them back to their hometown for the second date of the tour. The U.S. leg of the tour runs through mid-April, after which they will be heading to Europe to continue touring.
NachoVision is, apparently, more than just a goofy name. The band plan on utilizing their cousin to helm their own social media platform. The director said in a statement that he plans on releasing pre-show rituals, backstage photos and tales from life on the road. The group wil also present the fan-friendly “NachoVision Miracle,” in which the band will provide fans at every show with ticket upgrades.
