Rascal Flatts Strip Down for ‘Fallon’
When Rascal Flatts visited The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon in May to perform their latest Number One single “Rewind,” the country-pop trio also made time to re-create their 2006 cover of “Life Is a Highway.” The video popped up online this week.

Originally written and recorded by Tom Cochrane, who had a Top 10 pop hit with the song in 1992, Flatts’ take on “Life Is a Highway” appeared on the soundtrack to the 2006 Disney-Pixar film Cars. Backstage at the Tonight Show, the trio of Gary LeVox, Joe Don Rooney and Jay DeMarcus stripped away the production of the studio version and performed the song with only two acoustic guitars and a dobro.
The multi-camera-filmed clip showcases a more authentic sound for Flatts, who opened up about their chart successes and worries in an interview with Rolling Stone Country this week.
“I don’t know if it was make or break, but it was definitely leaning more toward ‘need to make,'” Rooney said of the band’s first chart-topper in two years, “Rewind.” “Not having a hit song on the Top 10 or Top 5 on radio, that scared us a little bit, but also it pushed us in a corner to make us fight.”
Rascal Flatts is currently on the road as part of their Rewind Tour 2014. The group makes a stop in Canada tonight.
