Listen to Karen O’s Lovelorn Crush Song ‘Day Go By’
Next week, Yeah Yeah Yeahs frontwoman Karen O will release her debut solo LP Crush Songs. On August 27th, Karen O staged Crush Songs listening parties in fans’ living rooms around the globe, but if you didn’t get a seat at one of those intimate album premieres, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs singer has unveiled another new track from her album called “Day Go By.” Listen to the lo-fi track and read along with Karen O’s handwritten lyrics over at Urban Outfitters (via Pitchfork). “Time away, tearing me apart I wear it on my heart I do,” she sings on the lovelorn cut. “Can’t sleep, I’m wasted, wasted, can’t stand still I’m shaking over you.”
Crush Songs features tracks recorded by Karen O around 2006 and 2007, when the Yeah Yeah Yeahs released their second album Show Your Bones. “When I was 27, I crushed a lot,” the 35-year-old vocalist explained in a statement about the inspiration behind the collection. “These songs were written and recorded in private around this time. They are the soundtrack to what was an ever-continuing love crusade.” In July, Karen O revealed the music video for the Crush Songs track “Rapt.” The album arrives on September 9th through Julian Casablancas’ Cult Records label.
As Rolling Stone previously reported, Karen O will celebrate the release of Crush Songs with four small venue gigs in New York and three more shows at Los Angeles’ Masonic Lodge at Hollywood Forever Cemetery. “If you’re in the mood for love, please come join my crush odyssey at these limited engagements,” O said. “I apologize in advance that these shows are so few but I guess that makes them all the more special if you can make it SO don’t miss out!”
