Bruce Springsteen Duets With John Fogerty At Jazz Fest
Bruce Springsteen’s third appearance at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival over the past eight years featured duets with Rickie Lee Jones on “Jesse James” and “O Mary Don’t You Weep,” two other tracks from The Seeger Sessions, a rollicking “When The Saints go Marching In” and plenty of Tom Morello guitar solos, but the highlight came during the encore when John Fogerty came out for the Creedence Clearwater Revival classics “Green River” and “Proud Mary.”

Springsteen and Fogerty have shared the stage a number of times over the years, most notably on the 2004 Vote For Change Tour. In 1993, Springsteen inducted Creedence Clearwater Revival into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. “[Fogerty] created a world of childhood memory and of men and women with their backs to the wall,” Springsteen said. “A landscape of swamps, bayous, endless rivers, gypsy women, back porches, hound dogs chasing ghosts, devils, bad moons rising… In the late Sixties and early Seventies, [Creedence] weren’t the hippest band in the world – just the best.”

Springsteen’s High Hopes tour head down to Houston on Tuesday before wrapping up with shows in Albany, Hershey and a two-night stand at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut. The following week, Springsteen is playing two shows with his longtime friend and collaborator Joe Grushecky in Pittsburgh, but plans beyond that are unclear. A summer run of stadium shows is seeming increasingly unlikely, even though he hasn’t played many of his strongest markets (New York City, New Jersey, Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia) in nearly two years. A box set focused on his 1980 LP The River is in the works, but a release date has yet to be announced.
