Jack White Hits the Road on ‘Lazaretto’ Summer Tour
Before Monday, Jack White‘s 2014 schedule appeared to be a series of one-offs, the most notable of which included a Record Store Day gig to promote his label, Third Man, and June festival dates at Governors Ball, Bonnaroo and Glastonbury. Now, however, the former White Stripes singer has announced that he will be filling out his summer with a series of dates across North America and Europe, traveling as far east as Poland and as far west as Lubbock, Texas. The singer/guitarist will be separately supported by fellow Third Man artist Kelley Stoltz and soul singer-songwriter Benjamin Booker.
What’s a Lazaretto? Behind Jack White’s new album title
As previously reported, White will spending Record Store Day, April 19th, at Nashville’s Third Man Records storefront, where he’ll play a short 10 a.m. set that will include the title track to his upcoming album Lazaretto. The acetate recording of “Lazaretto,” will be quickly sent to United Record Pressing, where it will be pressed, packaged and returned to Third Man that day to become, supposedly, the “world’s fastest released record. . . in the history of mankind.” Last week, White released “High Ball Stepper,” an instrumental in which White only snaps out of his guitar madness for brief interludes of flourishing piano.
A pre-order of a special limited edition copy of Lazaretto is available by signing up for the Third Man Records’ Vault, open through April 30th. The Vault edition of Lazaretto features the album pressed on blue-and-white vinyl, a fold-out poster, a classic National Archives photo that appears throughout the album art and a 7-inch featuring demo versions of two Lazaretto cuts, “Alone in My Home” and “Entitlement.” The package also includes a bonus 40-page hardcover book complete with lyrics, musical notation and photos.
