Watch Panic! at the Disco’s Brendon Urie Talk Working With Rivers Cuomo
On Friday, Panic! At the Disco will release Death of a Bachelor, their fifth album and first with singer Brendon Urie as the sole official member. Urie stopped by Rolling Stone to discuss the Frank Sinatra–inspired LP and some songwriting help he received from a personal hero of his as part of a longer interview to be posted on the site in full later this week. Watch the musician express his love for Weezer‘s Rivers Cuomo in the above clip.
“It’s so weird for me because he’s been a hero of mine for so long,” Urie told RS about co-writing single “Victorious” with Cuomo. It was the pair’s second time linking up, after having written together six years ago.
“When I got the Blue Album, I was 11 years old, 10 years old, and then I convinced my parents to go and get my first drum kit, which was like 600 bucks,” Urie recalls of his first encounter with the rock band. “I learned to play drums to the Blue Album.”
Last fall, Weezer also began releasing new music, debuting singles “Thank God for Girls” and “Do You Wanna Get High?” New songs aside, Cuomo revealed to Beats 1 Radio’s Zane Lowe that the band was not in the process of working on a full-length follow-up to 2014’s Everything Will Be Alright in the End.
