Texas Star Wade Bowen Announces New Album
Wade Bowen has made a name for himself in his native Texas, but he’s confident that his new self-titled album, out October 28th, will expand his reach beyond the Lone Star State.
Over a dozen tracks, Wade Bowen showcases the singer-songwriter’s gift for imagery-rich lyrics. Songs like album opener “When I Woke Up Today,” with its jangly Tom Petty guitar sound, and the sprawling “Watch Her Drive” overflow with vivid descriptors.
“I think without a doubt in my mind that my music is universal and can reach out to all kinds of people around the country, not just on the regional scene,” he told Rolling Stone Country recently. “I’ve always tried really hard to make sure my music is not just a regional thing.”
The new album, while broad in its relatability, is also one of Bowen’s more personal.
“I took a different approach. All the records I’ve done in the past have been very lyrically driven. I took more of a raw approach for this one. It’s an album I can take to my live shows and really enhance it and have fun with it,” he says. “This record has more energy in it than anything I’ve ever done.”
Bowen, whose last effort was the winking 2013 single “Songs About Trucks,” written by Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally, is currently on the road. He’ll play Springfield, Oregon, tonight.
