Watch Adele’s First-Ever ‘Hello’ Live Performance
Adele employs a massive backing band – including a cellist and percussionist – in her first-ever live performance of comeback single “Hello.” The clip teases the TV special Adele at the BBC, which airs November 20th, the release date for her long-awaited third LP, 25.
The “Hello” footage finds the singer belting the melancholy lyrics (“I must have called a thousand times / To tell you I’m sorry for everything I’ve done”) in front of a video screen featuring her face. Adele also answers a question about suspect tweeting during a Q&A game called “Rumor Has It,” confirming that her management won’t let her use Twitter without supervision.
“I mean, I’m not a drinker anymore,” she says. “But when Twitter first came out, I was drunk tweeting and nearly put my foot in it quite a few times. My management decided, ‘You have to go through two people and then it has to be signed off by someone.’ But they’re all my tweets. No one writes my tweets – they just post them for me.”
Adele opens up about 25, her experiences as a new mother and her rocky relationship with celebrity in Rolling Stone‘s revealing cover story. She also discusses the inspiration of her new single.
“‘Hello’ is as much about regrouping with myself, reconnecting with myself,” the singer says, explaining that the line “Hello from the other side” isn’t as creepy as it comes across. “It sounds a bit morbid, like I’m dead,” she says. “But it’s actually just from the other side of becoming an adult, making it out alive from your late teens, early twenties.”
