Big Boi, Phantogram Deliver Dazzling ‘Fell in the Sun’ Video
Big Boi and Phantogram‘s aptly dubbed Big Grams project have released a wildly vibrant clip for “Fell in the Sun,” a track off their self-titled debut EP.
The simple clip finds Big Boi and Phantogram‘s Sarah Barthel and Josh Carter dancing and performing the horn-laded cut amidst a constantly changing blur of light and color. The bright, kaleidoscopic visuals and exuberant, uptempo production combine for a welcome reminder of summer now that daylight savings has wrought the dreaded 5 p.m. sundown.
Big Boi and Phantogram first partnered on the former’s 2012 solo LP, Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors. While the rapper and his longtime partner André 3000 were toying with material for a new Outkast album during their 2014 reunion tour, Big Boi linked up again with Phantogram and decided to head in a different musical direction.
The unlikely pair recorded the seven-song set in Los Angeles and Outkast’s Stankonia Studios, with Phantogram at one point crashing with Big Boi and his family at their home in Atlanta.
“We wanted to have a time where we could not stress about the ‘Phantogram sound’ or collaborating on a hip-hop record,” Barthel told Rolling Stone. “We wanted to experiment and have fun with it. The main focus of wanting to do this project was to do things that we wouldn’t normally do anywhere else. This was a good platform for that because it’s less judgmental to think about it in that way.”
