Linda Wallem is a writer, producer and actress who created the show Nurse Jackie and also worked on Whitney, That 70s Show and Cybill.
Etheridge announced her plans to marry Wallem in June 2013, just after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down the Defense of Marriage Act. “I look forward to exercising my American civil liberties and getting fully, completely and legally married this year to my true love of over three years, Linda Wallem,” she said in a statement at the time. She followed that up with a celebratory tweet: “Lets hear it for the general progress of the human mind. With a beautiful sweep of sweet justice’s blind hand we move forward.”
Etheridge came out in 1993 and has long been a prominent voice for gay rights. In January, she formed the coalition Uprising of Love to support LGBT activists in Russia and released a track of the same name to support the cause.
