Watch Jimmy Fallon and Chris Christie’s ‘Evolution of Dad Dancing’
With Father’s Day approaching, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie dropped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to help illustrate the “History of Dad Dancing.” It’s the latest in Fallon’s ongoing “History of Dance” series, and it conjures long-buried memories of awkward family reunions and embarrassing wedding receptions.

As usual, Fallon starts the bit by himself – this time, decked out in a polo, ill-fitting khakis and a bold grey moustache that rivals Burt Reynolds in its intensity. After the host gets into the groove, Christie bum-rushes the stage in his own dad attire, and the duo settle into the classic paternal dance “The Belt Grabber.” Some of these moves are sure to send a nostalgic chill up your spine – from the classic “The Lawn Mower” to the sporting event celebrations of “The We Won the Game!” to “The Oh, Stop It! I’m Not Embarrassing You!”
Taking a comedic jab at Christie’s George Washington Bridge scandal, Fallon concludes with “The This Bridge Is Closed” finger wag, leading to an angry storm-off from Christie. The governor buries the hatchet for an encore of the fan favorite “The Dance You Do at a Springsteen Concert” – after all, these guys are lifelong late-night pals after their 2012 duet of Springsteen’s “Thunder Road.”

Throughout, Christie seems a bit unsure of his own skills, glancing often at Fallon for his boogie cues. And even if some of the bits fall flat (see puzzling “We Think We’re Doing The Same Dance, But We’re Not”), it’s still a hilarious three minutes – and it might even remind you to pick up that Father’s Day card.
As always, many of the best moments on Fallon’s Tonight Show involve cutting a rug. Last year, Michelle Obama joined the host to showcase the “History of Mom Dancing,” and earlier this week, Fallon and Jennifer Lopez squared off to settle the goofy score on who wears the tightest pants.
