Father John Misty Unveils Tour Dates, Pandora Mixtape
Father John Misty is hitting the road beginning on March 30th in Santa Ana, CA, at the Observatory. Josh Tillman’s newly added North American dates round out a 36-date tour, which ends in Europe. This leg of the tour culminates on May 31st in Oslo, Norway. In conjunction with his concert dates, the singer has released a Pandora mixtape, with the streaming music site also offering a tour presale beginning January 11th at noon local time.
The exclusive mixtape compiles songs curated by Father John Misty in anticipation of his tour and includes eight acoustic tracks, which he recorded live in London. The set also features some funny “rejected Pandora promos,” several of which he shared earlier on his SoundCloud page.
The Pandora promos feature Tillman speaking in an exaggerated radio announcer voice and showcase his well-known humor. “Promo #9,” for example, boasts “Whether you’re snorting rails of Tide off priceless Matisse cutouts or stuck at home because of your dismal Uber rating, my customized mixtape is guaranteed to be 100 percent Ed Sheeran. That’s Ed Sheeran all the time on Father John Misty Radio.”
The clever, goof marketing promos are not the first time he’s shared snarky recordings. In September, he composed Velvet Underground-style covers of Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space” and “Welcome to New York” in response to Ryan Adams’ own 1989 covers album. Tillman later took the Swift covers down.
Tillman is touring in support of 2015’s I Love You, Honeybear.
