The musician will play himself on the show, where he’ll “interfere with” the relationship of Jess (Zooey Deschanel) and Nick (Jake Johnson), reports E!. According to HitFix, the episode will focus on Prince‘s “legendary, star-studded Minneapolis house parties.” This will be Prince’s first appearance on a television comedy, but he’s reportedly a big fan of the series and actually volunteered for the guest spot himself. Fox representatives have not commented on the casting.
The Purple One has been enjoying an uncharacteristically outgoing year. After largely shunning the internet for most of the digital age, he finally opened a Twitter account in August, and it didn’t take him long to make his mark. One of his very first tweets included the hilarious “Breakfast Can Wait” album art (which features the now-iconic image of Dave Chappelle lampooning Prince on Chappelle’s Show). In October, he released a kinky music video for the single and, later that month, he went a step further into absurdity by throwing the “Breakfast Experience Pajama Dance Party,” an intimate affair held at his home in Minneapolis.
The music legend has also been active onstage, including a career-spanning funk blowout in October at his Paisley Park studio. Later this month, he’ll play a trio of gigs at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.
Prince’s New Girl episode will reportedly run after the Super Bowl, which airs on February 2nd on Fox.
