A Mike Tyson Movie? Boxer Says Yes
Mike Tyson and his wife Lakiha Spicer are producing a movie about the early days of the champion boxer’s life and career, the New York Post reports. The couple already have a few big name stars in mind for the film, including Kevin Spacey as Tyson’s trainer, mentor and surrogate father Mike D’Amato and Helen Mirren as the boxer’s adoptive mother, Camille Ewald. As for the former heavyweight champ himself, the couple said they wanted an unknown rather than an established star to play Tyson.

As for the film’s script, Spicer and Tyson are sensibly seeking Larry Sloman, who co-wrote the boxer’s recent memoir Undisputed Truth, which was turned into a one-man stage show that was filmed by Spike Lee for HBO. Sloman also helped write Howard Stern’s Private Parts and Miss America, as well as Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis’ autobiography Scar Tissue. Whether Tyson himself would appear in the film is uncertain, but the boxer has been building his acting resume, especially since his scene-stealing cameos in The Hangover movies.

During a recent chat with Rolling Stone, Tyson said he’s set to appear in a martial-arts movie in Algeria and play a convict in Werner Herzog’s upcoming film Vernon God Little. “I’m gonna be in orgasmicland; that’s really big for me,” Tyson said of the latter role, before explaining his characteristically peculiar word choice: “That means I’m going to be very goddamn happy. Werner wants me to be a serious actor. He don’t like this comedy stuff.”
