Want to Die in ‘Game of Thrones’ Book? Donate $20,000
Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin never bats an eyelash when it comes to killing off a major character. But what if that character was based on one of his own fans? In a new charity contest raising funds for a Santa Fe, New Mexico wolf sanctuary, Martin is giving two doomed Thrones obsessives the ultimate prize of literary demise, The Hollywood Reporter reports.

In exchange for a $20,000 donation, Martin will name two characters (one male, one female) after the charitable readers, allowing them to choose their “character’s station in the world (lording, knight, peasant, whore, lady, maester, septon, anything)” with the coveted narrative destination of a “grisly death.” More info is available at the Prizeo website.
Martin announced details of the charity in the below video, also breaking down the other, less gruesome prizes – which include eating breakfast with the Thrones mastermind ($15,000), attending the TV series’ Season Five premiere ($7,500), and owning one of Martin’s stylish hats ($7,500). (Fans who can’t afford to unload thousands of dollars on bacon and eggs can earn lower-level prizes, like a $50 T-shirt.)
The wolf-centric fundraiser was created by Martin with his wife, Parris McBride. (It seems very fitting that Martin is a wolf guy – hard to imagine him cuddling with a puppy.) Funds will benefit Santa Fe’s Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary, along with local food organization The Food Depot of Santa Fe.
Earlier this week, Martin’s editor, Anne Groell, hinted that the epic (and ongoing) A Song of Ice and Fire series might be extending to eight books, instead of the originally planned seven. And considering the epic lag-time of his ancient DOS computer, the series could be around for some time. Meanwhile, the HBO series will wrap up Season Four on Sunday, June 15th.
