Hear David Guetta’s Hard-Hitting Remix of Avicii’s ‘Addicted to You’
David Guetta’s remix of Avicii’s “Addicted to You” tears the song apart and reconstructs it in an entirely new form. Avicii’s original version, off his debut LP True, found the Swedish DJ mixing the organic with the electronic. Folk-rock singer Audra Mae delivers a classic, slow-burning blues ode to bad relationships while Avicii deftly slips a pounding beat in the back that merges naturally with Mae’s vocals.

Guetta isn’t having any of that. The French mega-star producer devilishly starts the remix leaving the track nearly untouched, suggesting that he won’t make any big changes. But, just as Mae’s voice drifts away on the refrain, Guetta rips the tune to shreds. High energy house beats blast the strings away and drive the song forward. Mae’s vocals return near the end, but only to reintroduce Guetta’s hard-hitting rhythm, which becomes even more volatile and berserk on the second go-around.
The pair previously collaborated and earned an award nomination. “It’s been since 2011 since David and I did ‘Sunshine’ together, and then we were nominated for a Grammy,” Avicii tells Rolling Stone. “So, his doing a remix of my song was just a perfect pairing. His remix totally rocks, so I’m thrilled he did this.”
