Kris Allen Premieres Lyric Video for ‘Prove It to You’
Season 8 American Idol winner Kris Allen just announced that his fourth full-length effort, Horizons, will come out Aug. 12, and Yahoo Music is excited to premiere the first lyric video from the album, for “Prove It to You,” featuring rising Russian singer Lenachka.
A lot has happened in Kris’s life since the release of his last album, Thank You Camellia, in 2012. He was in a scary car accident that left him with a serious wrist injury; he became a father; he moved to Nashville; he parted ways with RCA; and he started his own label, DogBear Records. And all of these highs and lows are reflected in the music of Horizons.
“I think the biggest thing is [this album] just feels personal, you know? The songs all started from ideas that I had, and all the lyrics feel like they came from the heart,” Kris recently told Yahoo Music. “And [producer] Charlie [Peacock] really honed in on something that none of the other records did: He said, ‘I want people to hear your voice.’ So he did that, and he brought in amazing players to complement that. I love the record. I really do.”
As for going the indie route — something Kris did for his first, pre-Idol album, Brand New Shoes, in 2007 — Kris says: “I think that for this situation, I’ve done the label thing for two records now, and I decided to do this one on my own. And so far, things have gone really smoothly. These songs feel really good, and things with [Charlie Peacock, who’s worked with Switchfoot and the Civil Wars] happened really naturally… there’s no reason right now for a label.”
Horizons comes out Aug. 12 and is available for pre-order on iTunes starting July 8.
