Preview Nick Offerman’s Uproarious Comedy ‘Date and Switch’
From the legalization of same-sex marriage in several states to the Sochi Olympics backlash to Michael Sam publicly coming out ahead of the NFL Draft, the times are finally a changin’ when it comes to gay rights in America. Now, a new comedy from a few Parks and Recreation veterans seeks to tastefully take advantage of the changing tides with a few laughs at the box office this winter.
Nick Offerman and More of the 50 Funniest People Now
Date and Switch (in theaters today) follows best friends Michael and Matty, two virgins who make a pact to help each other get laid before Senior Prom. But their mission takes an unexpected turn when Michael announces that he’s gay. In the clip above, watch as he attempts to satisfy his curiosities on the internet, only to be interrupted by his mild-mannered father Terry (played with deadpan schtick by Parks funnyman Nick Offerman). “Is there anything you’d like to talk to me about?” Offerman says, doing his very best to soothe a distressed boy. “There’s nothing wrong with what you’re doing right now,” he continues in a neutral tone eerily reminiscent of his celebrated Parks and Rec character Ron Swanson. “It’s a very natural urge at your age – a curiosity.”
Why Nick Offerman Is the Angry White Dude’s Hero
Offerman has been a mainstay on the NBC comedy since it premiered in 2009, appearing in all 105 episodes to date. But it might be the beginning of the end for Leslie Knope and her band of merry pranksters. Despite recieving a glowing endoresement in the pages of Rolling Stone from The Daily Show head writer Tim Carvell, Parks was put on hiatus last fall, much to the dismay of fans. And just last month, the show bid farewell to Rob Lowe and Rashida Jones, two beloved characters each with at least 75 episodes under their belts.
