The Ultimate Guide to Beyoncé’s Surprise New Album
The singer gave the song its live debut at her Chicago concert on Friday, the same day she surprised the world by releasing Beyoncé. “I’m gonna sing you a song which is a brand-new song,” she said onstage. “It hasn’t even been out for 24 hours. I’m gonna sing this for y’all because it was written for y’all.” Since then, the album has sold more than 617,000 copies, which will position it at Number One on the Billboard albums chart. Previously, her 2006 album B’day held the title for the most copies of a Beyoncé album sold in its first week.
Producer Noah “40” Shebib, who cowrote and co-produced the Beyoncé track “Mine,” recently told Rolling Stone how impressed he was with how the album came out. “It was brilliant,” he said. “You spend no marketing dollars, essentially. To hold that together and not let that out of the bag is very, very impressive. It’s not easy to do. Everybody was surprised. Everybody. It wasn’t just the fans.”
