Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood, Charlie Watts Remember L’Wren Scott
One day after Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger posted a heartfelt message about girlfriend L’Wren Scott, who died of an apparent suicide earlier this week, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood and Charlie Watts have released statements expressing support for Jagger after the death of the prominent fashion designer.
“No one saw this coming,” said Richards. “Mick’s always been my soul brother and we love him. We’re thick as thieves and we’re all feeling for the man. We really hate to disappoint our fans, but we’ll see everyone really soon.”
The group postponed seven shows in Australia and New Zealand following Scott’s death, but issued a statement on their website asking ticket holders to retain their tickets with new dates set to be announced shortly.
Wood offered condolences to his bandmate of nearly 40 years, but reiterated the band’s desire to continue performing. “This is such terrible news and right now the important thing is that we are all pulling together to offer Mick our support and help him through this sad time,” said Wood. “Without a doubt we intend to be back out on that stage as soon as we can.”
“Needless to say we are all completely shocked, but our first thought is to support Mick at this awful time.,” added Watts. “We intend to come back to Australia and New Zealand as soon as it proves possible.”
Following a brief statement Monday that he was “completely shocked and devastated by the news,” Jagger released a longer statement Tuesday:
“I am still struggling to understand how my lover and best friend could end her life in this tragic way. We spent many wonderful years together and had made a great life for ourselves. She had great presence and her talent was much admired, not least by me. I have been touched by the tributes that people have paid to her, and also the personal messages of support that I have received.
I will never forget her,
Mick”
Scott was raised in Utah, but moved to Paris as a teenager in the mid-1980s to work as a model. She became a highly sought-after stylist in the 1990s, working with everyone from Madonna to Tom Hanks to Martin Scorsese and Julia Roberts. She met Jagger at a photo shoot in 2001 and recently helped pick the clothing for the Stones’ ongoing world tour.
