Flashback: Pantera Confuse Beavis and Butt-head
Beavis and Butt-Head are clearly huge fans of Pantera, but the band’s 1992 video for “This Love” left them a little confused. This was largely due to the fact that they thought frontman Phil Anselmo was a guy named Pantera. “Does this Pantera guy ever relax?” Beavis wondered. “I don’t think so,” said Butt-Head. “This guy’s dad must have kicked his ass when he was a kid.”
We know precious little about Beavis’ home life, other than Butt-Head’s frequent assertions that his mother is a huge slut, but Beavis clearly went somewhere deep and personal as he attempted to channel Pantera’s father. “He was like, ‘Dammit Pantera, this beer’s warm!'” said Beavis. “‘Get me another one!'”
Butt-Head and Beavis supposedly have the same father (and we might’ve met the man in Beavis and Butt-Head Do America). Butt-Head also had little trouble tapping into the inner rage of Pantera’s imaginary father: “He was like, ‘You treat your stepmother with respect, Pantera, or you’ll be sleeping in the street!'”
Beavis then took it to the next level: “‘Dammit, Pantera. I told you to get out there and mow that lawn! Oh, what’s this? Is that a tear, Pantera? Is Daddy’s little girl upset? I’m going to kick your ass into next Tuesday! Now get out of here! And quit acting like a damn little girl!'”
