Beck in Legal Dispute with ‘Inglourious Basterds’ Actor
German actor/filmmaker Til Schweiger, who appeared in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds, is accusing Beck of property damage to a Malibu home the singer rented from the actor from 2010 until last February.

As TMZ reports, Beck was paying $11,000 a month to live in the three-bedroom, ranch-style home, referred to as a “mansion.” Both sides agree that the home is in disrepair, but Beck says it already had rampant mold and electrical and plumbing issues when he moved in, while Schweiger blames the singer. He claims he was left holding the bill for more than $40,000 in repairs caused by unauthorized work. Beck is suing his landlord to recover an $11,000 security deposit; Schweiger is countersuing for the damage plus back rent, totaling $56,704.24.
It’s been a difficult few years for Beck, apparently. He recently told an Argentine newspaper that his reduced musical output was due to “severe damage to my spine . . . It’s improving, so I’m back in the music.” A year ago, he told Rolling Stone he was trying to finish songs he’d stockpiled four years ago, but he worried, “I’m not sure if it’s relevant anymore.”
Despite the rental dispute, things could be looking up: In February, Beck expects to release Morning Phase, his first new album since 2008’s Modern Guilt.
