See Ashley Campbell’s Home Movies With Father Glen
Ashley Campbell’s debut single, “Remembering” is a sweet, banjo-filled tribute to her dad, music icon Glen Campbell. The tune, which skillfully walks the line between upbeat and heartbreaking, is accompanied by the just-released video filmed at East Nashville’s Riverwood Mansion.
The clip features Campbell watching her family’s home movies, previously seen in the Oscar-nominated film, Glen Campbell: I’ll Be Me. Documenting the singer’s battle with Alzheimer’s the film also includes the Academy Award-nominated and Grammy-winning “I’m Not Gonna Miss You,” which was the final recording of Campbell’s extraordinary career. “Remembering” was penned by Ashley with Kai Welch, during the time she and her family were still living in Malibu, California.
“I wanted to write something that expressed to my dad how much I wanted him to feel safe,” she tells Rolling Stone Country. “I wanted to let him know that he didn’t have to worry, that I’ll take care of him when he can’t take care of himself. The chorus of the song says, ‘[We can talk until you can’t even remember my name]/Daddy, don’t you worry, I’ll do the remembering.’ The song goes through the journey of how when you’re little your parents take care of you and make the world not such a scary place. As you get older, those relationships change and kind of swap places. The kids are the ones taking care of the parents and making sure the world’s not a scary place for them.”
“Remembering” is available at iTunes and will be released to radio stations beginning November 9th. Campbell is currently in the studio working on her debut album with famed producer Buddy Cannon.
