Dan Auerbach, the Arcs Recruit Dr. John to Launch ‘Inventors’ Series
Dan Auerbach‘s new band, the Arcs, have recruited two veteran songwriters – Dr. John and Los Lobos’ David Hidalgo – for a six-track, limited-edition 10-ich LP, The Arcs vs. The Inventors Vol. 1, out November 27th as part of Record Store Day’s Black Friday event. The release, the first in an ongoing collaborative series, will be out digitally December 11th.
“Sometimes the best way to see into the future is to study the past,” Auerbach says in a statement announcing the project. “In this series, we do both, collaborating with folks who have been in the game a long time but instead of rehashing old material, we collaborate on new works, explore new ideas and introduce each other to a different generational perspective. We’ll continue in this series to track down our heroes and bug them until they agree to make some noise with us. Hopefully we learn a thing or two.”
The Arcs. vs. The Inventors Vol. 1 will feature New Orleans jazz-funk-zydeco legend Dr. John on piano (“Skull Session,” “Blessed & Burned,” “Janitor”) and organ (“Virginia Slim,” “Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea”); Hidalgo, member of long-running Mexican-American rock act Los Lobos, will contribute guitar (“Virginia Slim”) and organ (“Blessed & Burned”).
The Arcs – Auerbach, Leon Michels, Richard Swift, Homer Steinweiss, and Nick Movshon –released their debut LP, Yours, Dreamily, in September. The band will kick off their first tour in November with a run of European dates, followed by North American gigs in December.
