‘The Goonies’ Sequel in the Works
A sequel to the classic 1985 movie The Goonies is reportedly in the works and might be based around a new story from original writer, producer and second unit director, Steven Spielberg, TMZ reports.
The gossip site recently tracked down Goonies director Richard Donner, who played news of the sequel as close to the chest as possible (“What’s The Goonies?” he responded when initially asked about the follow-up), but did let slip that “of course” Mr. Spielberg is involved.
“Hopefully we’re going to get this done, period,” Donner said. “Steven came up with the idea of doing a sequel after 30 years. You don’t do it without him. We’ve been trying for a long time, then he came up with another storyline and he’s right on.”
When asked if any of the film’s original cast would appear in the sequel — which boasted future stars Josh Brolin, Sean Astin and Corey Feldman — Donner said, “God knows, it’s up to them. If they have any sense they will; if they don’t, they won’t.”
In other words: Never say die.
