‘South Park’ Murders ‘Brash A–hole’ Donald Trump
South Park threw its hat into the Donald Trump slam-fest ring Wednesday, reimagining a world where a “brash asshole” managed to get himself elected president of Canada.
The episode finds Mr. Garrison leading a crusade against illegal Canadian immigrants, a plot partly introduced when Butters meets his new girlfriend’s Canuck family. The hilariously awkward scene finds Charlotte’s father interrogating Butters about his “Maple fever” and eventually explaining why the family, and others, have reluctantly moved south of the border.
“There were several candidates during the Canadian elections,” he says with increasing melodrama. “One of them was this brash asshole who just spoke his mind. He didn’t really offer any solutions. He just said outrageous things. We thought it was funny. Nobody really thought he’d ever be president. It was a joke. But we just let the joke go on for too long. He kept gaining momentum, and by the time we were all ready to say, ‘OK, let’s get serious now. Who should really be president?’ He was already being sworn into office. We weren’t paying attention!”
Horrified, Butters asks, “How bad can a president be?” cuing a hard cut to the back of a Trump-esque, wigged head spouting off how everyone from fleeing Canadians to the prime minister of China to his aide can “suck my balls.”
The rest of the episode tackles Trump’s xenophobic immigration policies by turning Mr. Garrison into a similarly outrageous and ignorant activist. For good measure, he’s given a hat bearing the episode’s title, “Where My Country Gone?” an obvious nod to Trump’s “Make America Great Again” cap.
In the clip below, Mr. Garrison details his horrific plan to curb illegal immigrants from Canada: “Fuck them all to death,” he shouts, and then build a giant wall — though much to his dismay, Mr. Garrison discovers the Canadians have already closed off America’s northern border.
When Mr. Garrison does make it over the Canadian’s wall, he finds a dystopian wasteland where the only happy citizen is the Trump-esque president, who happily dances in his office to “The Safety Dance,” by Canadian heroes Men Without Hats. After arguing about where their respective countries have gone, the two duke it out and Mr. Garrison finally gets to test his horrendous immigration reform policy, ending in the president’s grisly, coital demise.
South Park kicked off its 19th season last week with a surreal take on Tom Brady and “Deflategate.” The episode boasted an outrageous dream sequence in which Cartman imagines himself as the quarterback, Patriots coach Bill Belichick and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, all engaged in a profanity-laden circle of accusations that perfectly summed up the ridiculousness of the entire scandal.
