Feadz Reinvents Himself on ‘Metaman (Auto Remix)’ – Song Premiere
On his new “Auto Remix” of “Metaman,” the French DJ Feadz has some fun with his own trippy single, fracturing and reassembling it into a more aggressive dance cut.
Although Feadz has been producing electronic music for over 15 years, first working alongside the experimental recording artist Mr. Oizo and also his then-girlfriend Uffie, it wasn’t until this year that he released his first LP, Instant Alpha. Its version of “Metaman” was an expansive, almost mellow head-trip of a song; this remix, available as a bonus track on the LP, is nastier and more percussive.

“This remix is the club version of my psychedelic debut single,” Feadz (real name: Fabien Pianta) tells Rolling Stone. It barely resembles its source material: the splintered tune opens with a high-pitched, digital pinging before quickly snapping to a low, rumbling, trip-hop beat. From there, Feadz takes the rising synths from the original and washes them with reverb. As the remix progresses, jumping from one whimsy to another, shards of the original version momentarily flash to the forefront before quickly vanishing. This is dance music that is meant to be studied.
Instant Alpha is out now.
