Judy Garland’s Children Will Reunite for ‘Wizard of Oz’ Tribute
To celebrate the 75th anniversary of The Wizard of Oz, Judy Garland‘s three children (Liza Minnelli, Lorna Luft and Joey Luft) are reuniting this Sunday on the 86th Academy Awards, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Inside the Academy Awards: How a Song Can Wing an Oscar
Minnelli, naturally, is the most famous of the Garland children. The daughter of director Vincente Minnelli, Liza is renown for both her acting (including a Best Actress Oscar for 1972’s Cabaret) and singing (particularly her work in the Sixties and Seventies); she’s suffered from health issues in recent years – including a serious bout with viral encephalitis in 2000 – but has been gradually re-entering the public spotlight, including an appearance at the Screen Actors Guild Awards in January.
Lorna and Joey Luft are the children of Garland and her third husband, the late Sid Luft. While Joey has stayed out of the spotlight, Lorna has enjoyed a long career as a singer and actress – particularly on stage, appearing in musicals like Grease, Little Shop of Horrors and, fittingly, The Wizard of Oz (playing the Wicked Witch of the West).
No further specifics about the Oscar tribute are known at this time. The 86h Academy Awards will be held this Sunday, March 2nd.
