Lily Allen Drops New Single ‘Air Balloon’
Lily Allen continues her comeback with a new single, “Air Balloon,” the second track from her long-awaited, untitled third album. The song finds the British pop star reflecting on boredom and embracing escapism. “When I’m bored, I kind of drift away,” she sings at one point, before inviting listeners to “meet me in the sky.” It’s a poppy, synth-heavy cut that shows off the singer’s playful and funny sides.
“I don’t like dropping names but Kurt Cobain is all in my face,” she sings of one fantasy. “How the hell am I gonna tell him Elvis already took first place?”

Allen tweeted that she had returned to the studio in June 2012 with producer Greg Kurstin. But she later shrugged it off, saying she was just “throwing shit at the wall.” It wasn’t until November 2013 that she started releasing new music. That month, she released “Hard Out Here,” though she did not indicate whether it was part of her new album or not. In December, she made her return to the stage, accompanying Coldplay‘s Chris Martin on her song “The Fear” at a benefit in London. Most recently, the music supervisor of Girls said that the show would premiere new Allen music.
